FIXIE project down the drain...

Well come to find out that peach of a deal for road bike - fixie project I just purchased from below... CRAP!!! It was a French bike from the 70s, though in incredible shape, it would have been a great bike to ride as is, but just was not what I was looking for in a fixie project. The bottom bracket, where the crank arms meet the spindle, was a hydraulically pressed in "generic" form that alot of companies were doing in the 70s. This makes it virtually impossible to mount a fixed gear into it. There was alot of things I would have had to have gotten for it to make it look aesthetically sound and comfortable for my taste as well. It would have been around $500 to make it "my bike." Then I turn around and BAM there are new bikes that cost around that price already decked out the way I want. So I guess, I will keep looking. There is alot of thinking to be done, seeing that this isnt a purchase that has to be made and is just a product of a whim.

The bike that I purchased was donated to a one of these hippie bike guys that doesn't believe in owning cars. This guy goes to church events and businesses down town with fixer upper bikes he has been working on, and donates or sells them. I know it was a waste of my money, and it sucks, but you live and learn..... and at least it went to good cause??? This teaches me to do more research in things before I make rash decisions.

On the flipside, here are some conversions and customs right around what I am looking for...
